Face Detection technology is now making a real difference in movie recording. Thanks to the powerful BIONZ image processing engine, the HDR-TG1E can rapidly track subjects’ faces as they move. The technology is intelligent enough to automatically detect up to 8 faces within a frame simultaneously, adjusting focus and enabling colour control for facial features. It also checks lighting conditions automatically to prevent under/over-exposure of your subjects. And when shooting still images, it optimises the flash settings to prevent loss of detail in portrait highlights and shadows. The result is more sharply focused faces, better skin colour, and appropriate exposure of faces so the smiles appear bright and clear every time.

Facial image quality is greatly enhanced thank to sophisticated video compression rate control technology, which allocates more data capacity to the detected faces.

Shooting in challenging lighting conditions – such as against the midday sky – can easily result in poor contrast/exposure of your subject, if you are using an ordinary camcorder. However, the HDR-TG1E features the intelligent D-Range Optimiser, which employs Sony’s original image analysis algorithm to optimise dynamic range of your images, bringing out more of the details and generally ensuring a more natural-looking effect.

The intuitive touch panel interface makes operation simple and quick. Convenient navigation features, ergonomic controls, and accurate LCD colours all mean you can enjoy user-friendly performance right out of the box.

	Ergonomic, easy-to-use GUI

Located on the top left of the LCD touch panel, the Home Menu is the starting point for all operations. Press this button and then select the desired category to record or play, change settings or edit scenes. The Option Menu provides quick access to any settings you might need: whether you’re shooting or reviewing footage, a light press on the icon will display available choices for the current mode of operation. Even if you are a new Handycam® user, Help is always ready to assist you in understanding a function displayed on the Home Menu. Just press the “?” followed by the listed function to display a simple on-the-spot explanation.

	Quick and easy navigation to desired scenes

Helpful search functions accelerate and simplify navigation: Film Roll Index, Face Index, Visual Index and Date Index.

Spectacular HD video footage becomes even more exciting with realistic surround sound. The zoom microphone can widen or narrow its pickup angle to match the image zoom setting, so you can “focus” on nearby or faraway sounds. When zooming in for a close-up of a group of friends at a party, for example, the microphone automatically narrows its focus to capture their conversation. What’s more Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator allows you to record audio as Dolby Digital 5.1ch surround sound, which adds an extra sense of realism when you play back your HD footage on connected 5.1ch-compatible systems.

Built-in zoom microphone

Smooth Slow Rec records fast-action sequences at x4 speed so that a 3-second clip of, say, birds in flight or a fencing competition is stretched to 12 seconds on playback. This remarkable feature was made possible by the exceptional combination of Sony’s high-quality ClearVid CMOS Sensor and BIONZ Imaging Processor. Just activate this feature and shoot any 3-second action sequence, such as a golf swing, then narrate 12 seconds of audio, if desired. Play back the sequence and enjoy 12 seconds of stunning slow-motion video with your voice heard simultaneously at normal speed. It’s fun to watch and perfect for close analysis of sports moves.

Scene Selection modes let you easily create beautiful images in almost any type of setting. Whether capturing a sunset with friends in the foreground and illuminated skyscrapers in the background, natural beauty at beach resorts, fireworks bursting at night, or festive white landscapes of snow, the results are as spectacular as the scene you shoot. The Portrait mode, for example, can produce sharp images of people or flowers on soft backgrounds.
