Sony has been recognised as an environmentally-responsible manufacturer through the receipt of awards like the EISA Best Product award in the ‘green television’ category 2007-2008 for the BRAVIA KDL-40D3000, and the first ever European Union Sustainable Energy Europe Award for a consumer electronics company.
Local Environmental Initiatives
Sony Australia seeks to enrich the lives of the community in which we operate through the provision of outstanding entertainment and communications products. But this commitment to quality of life also embraces the care we take to minimise our impact on the local environment.
Since 2002, Sony Australia has enjoyed a partnership with Landcare, demonstrating a commitment to offsetting the carbon emissions generated through its operation. Specific initiatives include the CarbonSmart program of ‘carbon-free travel’.
Sony Australia is an active member of the National Packaging Covenant, a Government initiative which seeks to minimise the environmental impacts of packaging disposal, conserve resources through better design and production processes, and promote the re-use and recycling of used materials.
With the aim of helping customers understand and compare the energy consumption of its world-leading TVs, Sony Australia has enthusiastically adopted the Government’s voluntary energy-efficiency labelling scheme.
Sony Australia is a member of Product Stewardship Australia, a not-for-profit, industry-led organisation that promotes environmentally-sound solutions to the recovery and recycling of consumer electronics.
Through associations with SITA Environmental Solutions and Landcare, Sony Australia is enabling and actively encouraging Australian consumers to recycle a wide variety of batteries.
