A paradigm shift .... WOW
ILCE-7R 08 November 2014 by James007 (Australia)
Once in a while there is a change in technology that goes beyond the "next model" and this has clearly happened. I prefer to think of my A7r as a "paradigm shift". Although this might not be the perfect camera for everyone its the beginning of technology that has changed my DSLR thinking forever. These are my reasons that caused me to immediately part with all my existing cameras and glass are as follows. * The A7r is a true mirrorless DSLR that is not just an electronic viewfinder but what they call a TRUfinder that allows exposure & focus way beyond the capabilities of traditional optical reflex technology. I was a "Non Believer" and after 15 minutes immediately converted. * A means to be 1000% more creative being freed from heavy boat anchors that meant losing so many shots or the total inability to carry such weights to difficult locations. * The ability to have medium format style resolution in a package that's truly affordable with G series or Zeiss lenses in zoom or prime backing line up that are also very small and compact. * Sony designing a camera that can be adpted to other lens's using appropriate lens adaptors. Note that after looking at the Zeiss range I quickly replaced my glass however at least I had and "easy in" to start using my old glass while I slowly saved for the E mounts. * I have never have I had a camera with the default menu layout so perfect ! in fact so amazing if I have time from other chores its addictive to pick it up and play changing the ISO, Fstop, Shutter imagining your on a shoot assignment sitting in the lounge chair. Feeling comfy about access to your settings when your in the field is always a hidden fear and the A7r seems to have everything in the right place with only one exception being the video start button. * The A7r's ergonomics are truly mind blowing from such a small conservative looking device. It looks like another small ordinary modest camera that's inconspicuous in the field when you don't want to advertise there is a photographer about. These days that's a plus in public places ! * WiFi, Tiltable screen, built in stereo mic etc and the list just goes on and on. Finally in a professional / enthusiast camera we have some some consumer features are useful. The engineers at Sony have created a product that easily satisfies the professional as well as the enthusiast prosumer bringing creativity to everyone. Last comment, do not be fooled by the looks of this camera or others in the A7 series, these are a true paradigm ! I stupidly dismissed this smallish camera as a compromise and I now openly concede how very wrong I was. This camera is now very dear to me as I have developed a special relationship with my A7r.
