Important notice to owners of Sony VAIO personal computers regarding use of genuine Sony rechargeable battery packs

    Sony strongly recommends that VAIO computer customers use only genuine Sony VAIO rechargeable battery packs.

    Recently, Sony discovered that some third party-manufactured battery packs, that are promoted as being compatible with VAIO computers, can cause hazards and endanger customers' safety through overheating/catching on fire, emitting fumes or battery pack disintegration.

    Some of these battery packs, which are manufactured and sold by third parties, are marked 'For use with Sony VAIO Computers.' In fact, they may not comply with Sony's high quality standards, specifications and requirements for long-term, high-power voltage usage of rechargeable batteries.

    For your personal safety and peace of mind, we would like to remind you to only use genuine Sony rechargeable battery packs, that meet our quality assurance standards, for your VAIO computer.

    Warranty Implications
    Customers should also note that any damage caused to a VAIO notebook as the result of a third party battery failure, or indeed a genuine Sony battery that has been tampered with, is not covered under the Service and Limited Warranty Conditions for VAIO computers.     Where to purchase Genuine VAIO products in Australia
    In Australia, genuine VAIO notebooks and accessories are available from Sony VAIO Kiosk outlets and from VAIO notebooks or accessories purchased from anywhere other than these outlets or from Sony Authorised Service Centres may not be genuine VAIO products covered under warranty in Australia.
