Prepare for firmware update
To download the update file, please prepare the following items in addition to your camera.
 
System requirements for a computer

 Supported OS
  • Windows® XP Home Edition/Professional
  • Windows® 2000 Professional
  • Windows® Millennium Edition
  • Mac OS X (v10.1.3 - v10.4)

Operating conditions

  • The computer needs to be equipped with a USB port, or a card slot which is suitable for a recording medium to use.

  • Available hard disk space is 5MB or more.

  • RAM is 32MB or more.

 

Other items

Please be sure to prepare the following items as they will be used while updating.
 
POWER source (for the camera)

When performing the firmware update, use
a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM55H
or
the AC adapter AC-VQ900AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately).


USB cable

USB cable supplied with camera.

NOTEOperations are not guaranteed if you use a commercially available USB cable.

Recording medium

  • Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO Duo with capacity of 16MB or more
    * These will be generally called "Memory Stick Duo"
  • CF (CompactFlash) card with capacity of 16MB or more
  • Microdrive
 

1. Prepare the recording medium
Prepare the recording medium (Memory Stick Duo / CF card / Microdrive) to be used for the update, then format it with the camera.

NOTE Please note that all data including even protected images will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored.


2. Copy the update files to the recording medium (Memory Stick Duo / CF card / Microdrive)
Copy the update files to the recording medium (Memory Stick Duo / CF card / Microdrive) with one of the procedures below depending on your environment.

If your computer has a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium

  1. ImageInsert the recording medium formatted with the camera in the card slot of your computer.

  2. Copy the update files (DSCA100.app, DSCA100.str) to the root directory of the recording medium.


If your computer does not have a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium

  1. Insert a formatted recording medium in the camera.

  2. Insert a fully charged battery (NP-FM55H) in the camera, or connect the AC Adaptor to the camera.

  3. Slide the POWER switch to the On position.

  4. Press the MENU button to display the Recording menu.

  5. Select the Setup icon Setup icon with the controller ( controller ), then press the Center button of the controller to display the Setup menu.

  6. Please check that Mass Storage is chosen in Transfer mode of Setup menu . If it is not chosen, please set to Mass Storage .

    How to set the Transfer mode Image

    • Select the Transfer mode with the controller ( controller ).
    • Press the ( controller ) on the controller to display the options of Transfer mode.
    • Select Mass Storage with the controller ( controller ) and then press the Center button of the controller.


  7. Press the MENU button to turn off the menu.

  8. Connect the camera and the computer with the USB cable.

  9. Copy the update files (DSCA100.app, DSCA100.str) to the root directory of the recording medium inserted in the camera.

  10. When copying is finished, disconnect the USB cable.

3. Update the firmware
NoteWhen performing the firmware update, use fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM55H or the AC adapter AC-VQ900AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the firmware updating, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.

  1. Insert the prepared recording medium (Memory Stick Duo / CF card / Microdrive) in the camera, then slide the POWER switch to the On position.

  2. Press the playback (playback) button. Image

  3. The confirmation window appears. Image

  4. Use the controller ( controller ) to highlight Yes, then press the Center button of the controller.
    * No will cancel the operation.

  5. Updating procedure starts.

  6. When the updating-completed message appears, the updating procedure is complete.

    Turn off the camera and remove the recording medium. Image

4. Check the firmware version after updating
 
  1. Slide the POWER switch to the On position.

  2. Press the MENU button, then the LCD monitor display menu.

  3. Press the Display (Display) button. A window will show the firmware version.

  4. Check that the version number has changed to "Ver.1.02". Press the Center button of the controller to close the version number display.

NOTEIf the updating procedure was not updated correctly or the camera cannot be turned on, please consult the local authorized Sony service facility. After updating the camera, format the recording medium or delete the update files (DSCA100.app, DSCA100.str) from the recording medium

The installation of the Digital SLR Camera DSLR-A100 Firmware Update is now complete.
