You can set your computer to produce sound in various events such as the startup and shutdown of Windows while you are using Windows.

In the case of Windows98

(Procedure)

1. Click the "Start" button and then click "Control Panel" from "Settings".

2. Double-click the "Sounds" icon in the "Control Panel".

3. The "Sounds Properties" window appears. Click the events that should produce sound on the list of the "Events" box.

4. Display the dropdown list of the "Name" box by clicking the down-pointing triangular mark and specify type of sound you want to assign to the events which you specify in the procedure 3 on the list.
- To test the actual sound, click the "Reproduction" button
(button with a right-pointing triangular mark) while specifying sound to an event.
- When the sound you want to use does not appear on the list, click the "Browse" button to specify the location and name of a sound file.

5. When you have assigned sound to the events, click the "OK" button. You will see, on the list of the "Events" box, the speaker icons attached to the events to which you have assigned sound.

*You can register, as a sound scheme, all the current combinations of the events to produce sound and the kinds of sound on the list of "Events" box. To register the sound scheme, click the "Save as" button in the "Schemes" box, enter any name you like in "Save this sound scheme as" and click the "OK" button after you have assigned sound to the events.
