How to rate and improve computer's performance in Windows Vista?

Rating and improving computer's performance in Windows Vista.

    The result of rating will display in Windows Experience Index (※).
    A higher base score generally means that the computer performs better and faster.

    What is Windows Experience Index?

    The Windows Experience Index is a new feature of Windows Vista that is designed to measure the capability of the computer's hardware and software configuration. In addition, Windows Experience Index can mark the result of measurement as a rating number called base score.
    The base score of the computer is determined by the following components:

    • Processor
    • Memory (RAM)
    • Graphics
    • Gaming graphics
    • Primary hard disk


    Please refer to the steps below to rate the computer.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.


    2. When the Control Panel dialog box displays, click System and Maintenance.


    3. Click Performance Information and Tools.


    4. The Performance Information and Tools dialog box displays.

      • If it is the first time for users to rate the computer,

        Click Rate your computer.

      • If users have rated the computer before,

        Click Update my score.

    5. When the User Account Control dialog box displays, click Continue.

    6. When rating this computer, please wait a moment.


    7. When rating is finished, the Windows Experience Index will show the latest base score.

      Every component of hardware needs to be subscored.
      Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore.
      ※ The base score means the general level of the computer system performance which is based on the components.
