What is the system file protection (SFP)?

It is the function to protect the system files of Windows.

The system file protection (SFP) is the new function of Windows Me that protects the system files of Windows.

The conventional Windows had the problem that the system becomes unstable as system files of older versions than the current are sometime overwritten erroneously when some
application software is installed.

To cope with such the problem, Microsoft added the function called Windows File Protection (WFP) that protects the system files of Windows.
Windows Me adopted the protecting function called "System File Protection (SFP)" that was the enhanced version of Windows File Protection (WFP).
System File Protection (SFP) monitors the changes of the system files. If the system files are modified without following the normal procedure, the system restores them
with the backed up files automatically, which prevents the erroneous changes or the deletion of the system files.

* Please note that,
due to the function of System File Protection, part of applications including the utility software that manages the system files directly may not operate on Windows Me.
