How do I erase or change the sound effect of Windows?

Please refer to the following procedures on how you can erase or change the startup sound effect of Windows.

A. Erase the startup sound effect of Windows

- In the case of Windows 9* pre-installed VAIO computers

--Procedure--
1) Click [Start], point to [Settings] and click [Control Panel].

2) Double-click the [Sounds] icon in the [Control Panel] window. The [Sound Properties] dialog box appears.

3) Select [Start Windows] in the [Events] box.
* The speaker icon does not appear on the left-hand side of the item, if mute is selected.

4) Select [(None)] from the [Name] list box in the [Sounds] tab.

5) Click [OK] to close the [Sound Properties] dialog box.

- In the case of Windows 2000 and Windows Me pre-installed VAIO computers

--Procedure--
1) Click [Start], point to [Settings] and click [Control Panel].

2) Double-click the [Sounds and Multimedia] icon in the [Control Panel] window and the [Sounds and Multimedia Properties] dialog box appears.

3) Click the [Sounds] tab.

4) Select [Start Windows] in the [Sound Events] box.
* The icon of a speaker does not appear on the left-hand side of the item if mute is selected.

5) Select [(None)] from the [Name] list box.

6) Click [OK] to close the [Sounds and Multimedia Properties] dialog box.

B. Change the startup sound effect of Windows

- In the case of Windows 9* pre-installed VAIO computers

--Procedure--
1) Click [Start], point to [Settings] and click [Control Panel].

2) Double-click the [Sounds] icon in the [Control Panel] window. The [Sound Properties] dialog box appears.

3) Select [Start Windows] in the [Events] box.

4) Select any option you like from the [Name] list box in the [Sounds] tab.

To use a WAV file stored to a hard disk drive as a sound effect, instead of the standard sound effect of Windows, please refer to the following.

(i) Click the [Browse] button in the [Sounds] tab.

(ii) Select the folder that stores the WAV file you want to use as a sound effect from the [Look in] list box.

(iii) When the contents of the folder appear, select the file you want and click [OK].

5) Click the [OK] button to close the [Sounds Properties] dialog box.
