Why are the icons in Control Panel and on the desktop not displayed properly?
The icons in Control Panel and on the desktop are not displayed properly.
This could be due to a corrupted/damaged ShellIconCache file in the Windows folder. Please follow the steps below to delete that file to resolve the symptom.
1. Start Windows in Safe mode.
2. Use Windows Explorer to locate the ShellIconCache file in the Windows directory folder.
3. Delete the file.
4. Restart the computer
Note: To display the ShellIconCache file, please enable the Show hidden files and folders option.
