Check the firmware version

If the firmware of your WF-1000XM3 is version "2.0.2" or above, you do not need to perform the update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Launch the "Sony | Headphones Connect" application.
  2. Connect your WF-1000XM3 to the "Sony | Headphones Connect" application.
  3. Tap the three dots (menu button) in the upper right corner.
  4. Select the Version of your device shown in the Menu. This item is shown only when the device is connected.
  5. Confirm the WF-1000XM3 firmware version.

Important notice

  • DO NOT power off the device

DO NOT tap the power button .

When updating the WF-1000XM3 when you are not wearing it, set the "Automatic power off function" (power off the function when it is not worn) to "Do not turn off".
If it is set to "Off when headphones are taken off", WF-1000XM3 will automatically turn off about 5 minutes later and suspend data transfer of the update file. After that, when you turn on the WF-1000XM3 and reconnect it using Bluetooth, the suspended data transfer will restart.

NOTE: If you have changed the settings, please set it back to "Off when headphones are taken off" after the update is complete.

  • DO NOT perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is inconsistent, such as:
    - on a train/in a place where Wi-Fi signals become congested
    - near a microwave, cordless phone or any other devices that use the 2.4 GHz band frequency radio waves
  • Make sure both devices (Android/iOS device and WF-1000XM3) are fully charged.
  • Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as wearable devices or smart watches from your Android/iOS device before starting the update.

  • Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • For Android devices, the update process will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. (The file size is about 980 KB)
For iOS devices, the update process will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. (The file size is about 980 KB)
