How to care for your OLED/LCD TV

For details on how to clean the screen on the BRAVIA 9 II (XR90M2) - 85/75/65 inches models, refer to the instructions specific to those models in this article.

    Before you start

To help prevent damage during normal household use, follow these precautions when cleaning your TV.

    • Before cleaning, turn off the TV and unplug it from the power outlet.
    • The screen has a special surface coating. Avoid touching it whenever possible.
    • Do not spray or apply detergent directly to the TV. Liquid cleaner may drip into the screen or exterior and may cause malfunction.
    • Do not spray chemicals, such as insecticides, onto the TV, and do not use solvents such as benzene or thinner. These substances may cause deterioration or peeling of the surface finish.
    • Avoid prolonged contact between the TV and rubber or vinyl materials, as this may cause deterioration or peeling.
    • If you plan to use a commercially available chemical or cleaning cloth, check with the manufacturer to confirm it is suitable for cleaning TVs.
    • Do not use a commercial available screen protective filter.

    Clean your TV

    • To help prevent damage during normal household cleaning, gently wipe the screen with a dry, clean microfiber cloth.

      For BRAVIA 9 II (XR90M2) - 85/75/65 inches models

When wiping the screens of these models, please follow these instructions:
IMPORTANT: The following actions may damage the panel and should be avoided.
      • Do not spray liquid directly onto the screen.
      • Do not use cleaning chemicals other than those recommended in this article.
      • Do not clean the screen with materials other than a microfiber cloth (for example, tissue paper, non-microfiber fabric, or gauze).

If dirt remains, follow these steps due to the characteristics of the special surface coating:

      Notes:
      • Because stains may become more difficult to remove over time, we recommend cleaning the screen as soon as it gets dirty.
      • Before cleaning, wash your hands with soap to prevent dirt or oils from getting on the screen. In particular, cosmetics, hand cream, sunscreen, and similar products may leave residue, so avoid letting them contact the screen.
If dirt cannot be removed with a dry microfiber cloth
      • Lightly moisten the microfiber cloth with water (do not drip), then gently wipe the screen.
      • If streaks remain, wipe the screen with a dry microfiber cloth and repeat as needed.

If the dirt cannot be removed with a moisten microfiber cloth
      • Gently wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth lightly moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol (aka isopropanol or IPA) or 70% ethanol. Apply the liquid to the cloth, not directly to the screen.
        Notes:
        • When wiping the screen with IPA 70% or ethanol 70%, do not apply pressure. Wipe slowly in one direction.
        • You may use it without first dry-wiping or wiping with water.

      • If streaks remain, dry wipe and repeat as necessary.
  • Gently wipe dust, fingerprints, or skin oil from the exterior using a dry, soft cloth, such as an eyeglass-cleaning cloth.
  • If ink from an oil-based marker gets on the screen, use a lightly dampened cloth with a synthetic detergent diluted with water (less than 1%), then wipe gently. Finish by wiping with a clean microfiber cloth.
  • Do not use detergent with abrasives such as a cleanser.
  • Avoid applying pressure while wiping the screen. On LCD TVs, pressure may temporarily affect the liquid crystal alignment and may appear as spots or marks. Turning the TV off and on may help the screen return to its normal appearance.
  • Wipe the printed areas (such as CH +, CH -, or HDMI2 labels) of the TV carefully using a soft dry cloth, as these areas may be damaged if scratched.
  • Because the space between the television and the stand (tabletop stand) is narrow, take care to avoid pinching your fingers. Using a cleaning tool with a handle may help.
  • Dust may collect near the ventilation opening. About once a month, gently vacuum these areas. Heavy dust buildup may affect performance.
  • To clean the remote control, soak a cloth in a neutral detergent diluted with water, then wring it thoroughly so no liquid drips. Wipe dirt from the remote control using the damp cloth and finish by lightly wiping the remote control with a dry cloth.
Note: If battery fluid is leaking, remove the batteries and thoroughly wipe the battery compartment before inserting new batteries.
