    Do I need a Google account or ID to use my Android TV or Google TV?

    No. You can use basic TV functions without a Google account. However, some apps, Google services, and internet-based features require you to sign in. The available features vary depending on your TV's operating system version.

    Android 14

    You can use basic TV functions without a Google account.
    However, you cannot use internet-based features or most network services without signing in.

    What functions of the TV require a Google Account?

    Google services such as Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Games as well as installing new applications from the Play Store require a Google account. Other network-related features may also require a Google account.

    Android 12 or earlier

    You can enjoy some functions of the Android TV or Google TV even without a Google account logged in. You can watch TV programs and enjoy all Sony applications, home network functions for the Media Player app, Album app, the Music app, the Video app and the Network Electronic Program Guide (EPG).

    In addition, certain functions such as the Google's voice search function (except for Google TV model), Chromecast built-in (Google Cast) function, Internet browsing and the YouTube™ app are available without logging in to a Google account.

    However, you will not be able to rent or buy Movies, TV shows and Apps from the Google Play Store.
