How to use the TalkBack feature on your Google TV™

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products. Check the Applicable Products and Categories section of this article.

    The TalkBack feature works by vocalizing the information on the TV screen, such as the program guide and setting screen. The TalkBack feature also provides an explanation of the item you selected as well as information on what can be done with that item. In order to use the TalkBack feature, an Internet connection is necessary.

    Before you start

    • When the TalkBack function is turned ON, editing INPUT or Quick settings is not available.
    • For eARC-supported models only: When the TalkBack feature is activated, eARC mode will be set to Off.
    • For models featuring Android™ 10 or later: The Accessibility shortcut function lets you switch the TalkBack feature on or off by pressing and holding the mute key for 3 seconds or more.

    Activating the TalkBack feature from the Quick Settings menu

    On the remote control, press the Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, and select Settings.

    1. Select System.
    2. Select Accessibility.
    3. Select TalkBack.
    4. Select Enable and set it to On.
    5. Select OK.

    Note: Once you enable the TalkBack feature, the Accessibility and TalkBack settings will appear in the Quick Settings menu.

    Disabling the TalkBack feature from the Quick Settings menu

    1. On the remote control, press the Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, and select Settings.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Accessibility.
    4. Select TalkBack.
    5. Select Enable and set it to Off.
    6. Select OK.

    Setting the TalkBack volume in relation to the TV volume

    1. On the remote control, press the Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, and select Settings.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Accessibility.
    4. Select TalkBack.
    5. Select Configuration.
    6. Select Speech volume.
    7. Select your preferred speech volume from Match media volume to 25% of media volume.
      Note: Match speech volume is the max volume setting for TalkBack.

    Changing the speech rate

    1. On the remote control, press the Quick Settings (spanner or gear) button, and select Settings.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Accessibility.
    4. Select Text to speech.
    5. Select Speech rate.
    6. Select your preferred speech rate from Very slow to Fastest.
