LCD TVs are pretty slim. Just compare them with the cathode ray tube TVs we used to have, and large screen projection TVs.
But at Sony, ‘pretty slim’ wasn’t enough.
So we developed the world’s first edge-type white LED backlighting for large displays. This remarkable technology reduces both the weight and the depth of LCD TVs. In fact in cross section, the screen of the ZX1 Series is less than 10mm thick!
Traditional LCD TVs use white backlighting (such as an array of Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps or CCFL) to illuminate the LCD panel, which is where the images are displayed. However with this new technology, white light emitting diodes (LEDs) are used instead, without any loss in luminance.
Using wide-colour gamut phosphors, Edge LED can enhance colour purity and produce more lifelike images too, so the viewing experience is exceptional. And even without turning the TV on you’ll notice the difference, as the slimmest ever large panel LCD TV will blend in beautifully and discretely wherever you choose to position it.
